Police in Nyamira are investigating the death of a 22-year-old Chuka University student, Brian Mogaka, who was allegedly beaten to death by his uncles in Nyankono village, North Mugirango Constituency.
Mogaka had reportedly been suspended from Chuka University due to alleged involvement in cannabis abuse. His mother, Teresa Mogaka, is said to have sought help from her brothers to discipline him. The uncles tied Mogaka’s hands and legs and "caned him non-stop" until he succumbed to his injuries.
After his death, the suspects allegedly changed his clothes, placed him in bed, and "planted cattle pesticide alongside him to conceal evidence" before fleeing the scene.
Police officers from Ekerenyo station, along with investigators, arrived at the scene on Tuesday night and transported the body to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Ikonge Assistant Chief Joseph Masese confirmed that the body had "several bruises and injuries from canes," indicating severe physical abuse. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
