Two Form Four students lost their lives after a septic tank collapsed at Ramba Boys High School in Rarieda, Siaya County.
The incident occurred around 6:00 pm when a group of students was on top of the septic tank, which suddenly caved in. According to one of the junior teachers, most of the students managed to escape unharmed. However, two students sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital, while the fatalities sank into the septic tank.
Authorities, including the police and Kenya Red Cross officials, responded to the scene and worked overnight to retrieve the bodies.
Siaya Governor James Orengo, through a press statement, expressed his deepest sympathies with the school community and reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of learners across the county. He also urged for calmness during this difficult time.
