Authorities at Muthangari Police Station are investigating a fatal shooting incident involving a bodyguard assigned to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed. The bodyguard, identified as Muhammed Yusuf Keinan, allegedly shot and killed a civilian in Muthangari, Nairobi.
According to a police report, Keinan stated that he was accosted by three men while walking home around 8:00 pm on Sunday.
“One of the men struggled and snatched his Ceska Pistol s/no. F4899, but he took hold of it by the muzzle and eventually recaptured it back. One of the men blocked him, and he shot severally in the air to scare them,” the report states.
During the altercation, Keinan fired multiple shots, resulting in the death of 38-year-old Amos Lang’at. The other assailants reportedly fled the scene on a motorbike.
Keinan claims to have sustained injuries on his arm during the scuffle. The deceased's body has been moved to Chiromo Mortuary as investigations commence.
The officer has since been disarmed and is currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital.
Police are working to reconstruct the incident by revisiting the crime scene, collecting witness statements, and reviewing potential CCTV footage.
"We cannot confirm if it was a case of robbery or something else could have happened, it is too early. For now, the only thing we are relying on is his statement (the bodyguard),” a detective investigating the case told Citizen Digital.
Authorities are seeking to determine whether Keinan acted in self-defense.
“For now, we don’t have anyone in custody, but in due time, we will have gathered more information as we revisit the crime scene,” the detective added.
