Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has alleged that the attack he faced at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday was orchestrated by individuals who knew he would attend the event.
In a video shared on his X account, Salasya stated that those behind the attack took advantage of the football match, expecting his presence.
"What happened yesterday (Sunday) was a planned thing. I remember I was the first one who told people to come to Nyayo. They took advantage because they knew I would definitely come because I am not a coward at all," he said.
The legislator explained that he had left his security team behind, trusting that football matches serve as a unifying event for Kenyans. He attended the game with a friend, unaware of any looming threats.
Upon his arrival at Nyayo Stadium, where Gabon was set to play against Harambee Stars, he began to sense something unusual.
"The moment I entered (the stadium), it was planned and someone warned me at the gate," he revealed. "Then there was one guy who was following me everywhere I went. I went up to the VIP and he was still following me."
Salasya insisted that the attack was well-coordinated, arguing that if it had been a spontaneous reaction, the individuals involved would not have acted in unison. He also claimed that those responsible could be identified.
"I could have decided to go and sit in the middle of the pitch and that game would have been postponed. Another option could have caused a stampede," he stated.
"I thank God I went alone. I didn't go with my bodyguards, I didn't arm myself, because that could have been a disaster."
Following the incident, Salasya expressed gratitude to Kenyans who supported him.
Videos from the scene show him dressed in an AFC Leopards jersey, being pushed toward the stadium exit by a rowdy group. Some individuals hurled objects at him, while a few attempted to shield him from harm.
Another clip captured police officers stepping in to escort him to safety as the crowd followed closely, with some shouting, “Lazima aheshimu Raila,” meaning, “He (Salasya) must respect Raila.”
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi condemned the incident, calling for action to be taken against those involved.
