IEBC Chairperson Candidate Anne Amadi Refutes Gold Fraud Claims

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson candidate Anne Amadi has distanced herself from allegations of involvement in a gold scandal.

The case, brought forward by Bruton Gold Trading LLC, claims that over Ksh.89 million was illegally obtained for undelivered gold through the law firm Amadi and Associates Advocates. However, during her vetting by the IEBC selection panel on Monday, Amadi, a former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, clarified that she resigned from the firm in 2014 and has no ties to the alleged fraud.

Amadi emphasized that a ruling by Kenyan courts had already determined her innocence regarding the matter. She dismissed the allegations as an attempt to damage her reputation.

"It was a malicious attack which is something that when you are in public service you must be ready for. Public Service at any level is not for the faint-hearted. It was an attempt to shake me and slain my reputation because I have upheld my integrity," she stated.

The seasoned advocate, with 34 years of legal experience—including 20 years in public service—reiterated that she has no expertise in gold trading.

"I do not have skills in gold trading," she affirmed.

Amadi also expressed confidence in handling the pressures of overseeing elections, asserting that she understands the challenges and is prepared for the task.
