29-Year-Old Woman Raped and Strangled to Death in Embakasi

Detectives from Embakasi Police Station are on the hunt for two male suspects accused of luring, sexually assaulting, and strangling a 29-year-old woman, Naomi Wangare Mwangi, to death.

According to police reports, the suspects used a female accomplice—now in custody—to set a trap for Naomi before attacking her under the cover of darkness.

Naomi’s lifeless body was discovered in Embakasi on the night of February 18. Witnesses recall seeing unknown assailants forcing her to the ground before assaulting her. One witness described hearing “a long, shrill cry that echoed through the night,” alerting the entire neighborhood.

By the time residents rushed to the scene, Naomi’s killers had already disappeared into the darkness, leaving behind her half-naked body. Police were called to the scene and transported her remains to the City Mortuary before notifying her husband, Cornel Ekaset.

On the night of her murder, Ekaset says Naomi received a phone call and stepped outside, leaving their 9-year-old daughter at home. When he arrived from work later that night, Naomi was nowhere to be found—until a neighbor came knocking with the devastating news.

Investigators have since arrested a female friend who was seen with Naomi and two men shortly before the crime. Police believe she played a role in setting up the victim.

An autopsy confirmed that Naomi died from strangulation and had been sexually assaulted. Meanwhile, the search for her killers is ongoing.
